Mr. James Allen Matthews, age 78, of Salem, IN, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017, at his residence.  Mr. Matthews was born April 26, 1939, the son of James Fredrick Matthews and Emma Ruth Allen.  He was a retired pipefitter from Louisville Gas and Electric; and he was a member of Glad Tidings Christian Center. He loved bowling, playing softball, and fishing and enjoyed watching Joyce Meyer Ministries. He loved the Lord and his passion was to share God’s word one on one.

Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife, Judy Conwell Matthews; four children, Tim (Scott) Matthews, Atlanta, GA, Brent Matthews, Elizabethtown, KY, Anne (Joe) Mullenix, Brandenburg, KY, Barry (Tammy) Matthews, North Dakota; two step-children, Mindy (Jeff) Pennington, Pekin, IN, Holly (Wes) Drury, Pekin, IN; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; and two half siblings, Gary Allen and Shirley Hale, both of Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 7, 2017, from the chapel of the Hager Funeral Home, with Pastor Steven Gorman officiating.  Burial will follow in Buck Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon until 8:00 PM on Monday, and after 9:00 AM on Tuesday.  In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Joyce Meyer Ministries; Hosparus of Southern Indiana; or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
