CSM (Ret.) Benjamin Thomas Hardesty, age 86, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on his birthday, Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the Beehive Assisted Living Center. CSM Hardesty honorably served his country in Korea and Vietnam, retiring from the United States Army on February 28, 1982. He was a member of the Meade County Classic Cruisers; and St. Mary Magdalen of Pazzi Catholic Church.
CSM Hardesty was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Edith Catherine Brown Hardesty; his first wife, Mildred Miyako Hardesty; a daughter, Leisa Greenwell; two sisters, Mary Catherine Hardesty and Fonda Wailage; and two brothers, Richard Oswald and Patrick I. Hardesty. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lena Greenwell Hardesty; his daughter, Dana Vanover, and her husband, Eric, Brandenburg, KY; three grandchildren, Brooke Bennett, Louisville, KY, Taylor Deaton, and her husband, Garrett, and Devon Vanover, both of Brandenburg, KY; a sister, Juanita Hardesty McMahan, Mt. Washington, KY; and many nieces and nephews, including Mike, Leo and Larry Hardesty, all of Brandenburg, KY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at St. Mary Magdalen of Pazzi Catholic Church, with Rev. George Illikkal and Deacon Greg Beavin officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at Hager Funeral Home from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday and from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM on Tuesday. Vigil Services will be held on Monday evening at 7:00 PM at the chapel of the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery.
