Mr. David W. “Spot” Whelan, age 59, of Flaherty, KY, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at the Hosparus In-patient unit of the Norton Medical Pavilion in Louisville, KY. Davy was a member of St. Martin of Tours; the North American Truckers Association; a former owner and operator of Whelan Trucking Company; worked as a professional mover for 18 years; and was an owner/operator for Pace Air Freight for 18 years.
Davy lived his life the way we all hope to live. He was honest, trustworthy, gracious, forgiving and always kept a positive outlook. Overall, he just lived life the right way. He was a man of strong faith. He loved his family. He believed in working hard, and taking pride in, whatever you were doing. “You never quit, you never give up!” Davy loved kids, treating all as his own, and they loved him in return. It is hard to find a photo of Davy that he is not holding a baby. Davy was always the storyteller, but he summed up his story by stating “I’m the luckiest man alive! I’ve had a good run!”
Davy was preceded in death by his father, Wayne I. Whelan; a son, Golan Brown; and a grandson, Robbie Pryor. He is survived by his wife that he dearly loved, Sonja A. Whelan; five children, Austin G. Whelan, and his fiancé, Kristin Kaiser, Elizabeth, IN, Alex G. Whelan and Tina Brown, both of Louisville, KY, Aaron G. Whelan, Brandenburg, KY, Craig Brown, and his wife Kelly, LaGrange, KY; five grandchildren, Cooper W. and Carter B. Whelan, and his wife, Beth, Elizabethtown, KY, Eddie Whelan, and his wife, Kim, Kevin M. Whelan, and his wife, Nicole, both of Flaherty, KY; his sister, Lucina M. Kessler, and her husband, Barry, Columbus, IN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
