SSG (Ret.) Gilbert Leroy Herrin

SSG (Ret.) Gilbert Leroy Herrin, age 90, of Flaherty, KY, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at his residence. He was born May 20, 1928, the son of Gilbert H. and Beulah I. Dale Herrin.

SSG Herrin retired from the United States Army as a 22 year veteran, after having served his country in the Korean War and Vietnam Era. SSG Herrin also served briefly in the Merchant Marines. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and thoroughly enjoyed cooking.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jewell G. Herrin. He is survived by three children, Ronald D. Herrin, and his wife, Kay, Cape Coral, FL, Sandra M. Thompson, and her husband, Larry, Ekron, KY, Robert A. Herrin, Vine Grove, KY; three sisters, Wilma L., Columbus, GA, Thelma Louise, Daytona Beach, FL, and Helen L., also of FL; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.

Graveside services, with military honors, will be held at 12:30 PM on Friday, October 19, 2018, at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, KY. Visitation will be held at Hager Funeral Home in Brandenburg, from 9:00 AM until 12:00 Noon on Friday.
