1SG (Ret.) Michael Boland, age 85, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Harrison Springs in Corydon, IN. Michael was born October 30, 1936, in County Cork, Ireland.
Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Boland; his son, John K. Boland; and his daughter, Maura Belk. He is survived by his son, Michael L. Boland; grandsons, Luke, Spencer and William Boland; his daughter-in-law, Betsy Boland, all of Louisville, KY; and his brother, William J. (Maureen) Boland, Sea Girt, NJ.
Michael entered the United States in November of 1959 and joined the U.S. Army in May of 1960.
In May of 1963, Michael married Ann Mary Fitzgerald of County Cork, Ireland in County Cork, while stationed at Ulm, Germany with the U.S. Army. In September 1964, Michael was reassigned to Fort Devin’s, MA, and returned to the U.S. with Ann and baby Maura.
Michael retired from the U.S. Army at Fort Knox, KY, as a 1SG in February of 1981. During his 21 years of service with the U.S. Army as an Infantryman and an Armor Crewman, Michael also served three more tours of duty in Germany, one tour in Vietnam and one tour in Fort Lewis, WA.
After retiring from the U.S. Army, Michael went to work for General Dynamics as a Tech Rep in April 1981 and retired from there in 1994.
A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 1:30 PM on September 28, 2022, at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff, KY. Visitation will be held privately for Michael’s family only. Online condolences may be left at www.hagerfuneralhome.com.
