Charles Lee Hager, DMD

Charles Lee Hager, DMD, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Baptist Health Elizabethtown. He was born April 6, 1928, the son of Joseph Alfred and Lillian Clara Medley Hager. He was a parishioner of St. Brigid Catholic Church in Vine Grove and a member of the Rev. J.J. Diemert Knights of Columbus Council.

Dr. Hager attended Western Kentucky University, then graduated from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 1955. He was one of only two members of his class to receive two awards of excellence in dentistry, including the C.V. Mosby award, American Society of Dentistry for Children Award and the American Academy of Dental Medicine Award. He was also one of only fifty students from all dental schools in the United States selected for the Senior Dental Program with the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1955 to 1958. Following his service, he practiced in Radcliff, Kentucky, retiring from his profession in 1996. Dr. Hager served on many civic and community boards and organizations, was the long-time treasurer of the Hardin County Health Department, and a founding member of the Lincoln Trail Golf Course.

Dr. Hager was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 69 years, Mary Emily (Hamilton) Hager; three brothers, Kenneth Alfred, Joseph Francis ‘Frank’, and Michael Louis Hager; and two sisters Martha Jane Hamilton and Dorothea Ann ‘Mookie’ Cormack. He is survived by three children, Roger (Ruth Ann) Hager, Stan (Kim) Hager, and Julie (Rob) Bentley; four grandchildren, Justin (Tara) Hager, Amber Hager, Lindsay Bentley, and Jordan (Christina) Hager; and three great grandchildren, Ian Selm, Ivy Hager and Ari Hager; and his sister, Joan Hager Adams.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 10 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Flaherty, KY with Rev. Jeff Hopper officiating.  Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Martin of Tours Cemetery in Flaherty, KY.  Visitation will be held at Hager Funeral Home in Brandenburg from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 9, and at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass on Thursday.  A vigil service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday evening.  In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the St. Martin’s Cemetery Fund.
