Charles E. (Gene) Smith

     Mr. Charles E. (Gene) Smith, age 75, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon, IN.  Gene was born August 26, 1945, the son of C.E. and Anna Ruth (Mills) Smith.  He proudly enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during the Vietnam Era.  Gene was co-owner, with his brother, of C.E. Smith and Sons, a general construction company established by their father.  In recent years, he became a collector of classic cars, especially loving Fords and Mustangs.

     Gene is survived by his loving wife, Betty (Morgan) Smith; two children, Steve Smith and his wife, Cindy, and Rebecca Embry and her husband, Jon; four grandchildren, Anthony Smith and his wife, Alexandra, Caroline Smith, Michael Embry and Elizabeth Embry; two brothers, Roger Smith and his wife, Alice and Rick Smith and his wife, Debbie; and his sister, Judy Hicks.

      A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 12, 2021, at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, with Revs. George Illakkal and Greg Trawick officiating.  Burial, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held at Hager Funeral Home in Brandenburg, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Sunday, and from 10:00 AM until 10:30 AM on Monday.  A prayer service will be held at 5:00 PM on Sunday led by Deacon Greg Beavin.  Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Theresa Parish Life Center.
