Obituary

Mr. Charles R. Thompson, age 95, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. Mr. Thompson was born July 5, 1927, the son of Joseph Albert and Eva Ritchie Thompson.  He left high school at 17 to join the United States Navy, where he served his country during World War II.  He was a longtime member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus St. Teresa Council #2282.  Charlie served as the Executive Vice-President for Farmers Deposit Bank for 40 years, and also served as Treasurer for Meade County Fiscal Court full or part time for the same number of years.  Most importantly, Charlie was a great father and grandfather, who always loved attending any type of ballgame or activity that they were involved in.

Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 70 years, Rita A. Thompson; his son, Philip Gerard Thompson; two grandsons, John T. and Michael K. Thompson; four brothers, James “Tickle”, Ronald, Frank and Guy Patrick Thompson; and two sisters, Lorene King and Mary Jo Treat.   He is survived by four children, Charles Michael Thompson, Battletown, KY, Glen Patrick (Wendi) Thompson, Corydon, IN, Thomas Daniel (Debbie) Thompson, Brandenburg, KY, John Kevin (John Boston) Thompson, Louisville, KY; five grandchildren, David (Emma), Josh, Jenny and Summer Thompson, and Jammie (Charlie) Allgeier; and two great grandchildren, Garrett and Caleb Greenwell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, with Rev. Toan Do officiating.  Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. George Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of mass on Saturday.
