Eddie Marvin Sipes, 82, of Brandenburg, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023, at Harrison County Hospital, Corydon, Indiana. Eddie was born February 28, 1940, to Richard (a farmer) and Sudie (a homemaker) Sipes of Garrett, Kentucky. He died after a long illness. Eddie was one of seven children. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary Margaret Sipes Pike of Vine Grove, Kentucky, William Thomas Sipes of Layton, Utah, Richard Kelly Sipes of Ashtabula, Ohio, John Walter Sipes of Garrett, Kentucky, and Robert Earl Sipes, of Big Springs, Kentucky. Eddie is survived by his youngest brother, Leslie Alan Sipes, of Flaherty, KY.
Eddie is also survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Elizabeth (Deanie Goff) Sipes, two sons, Robert Eric Sipes and his wife, Marcy James Sipes of Gallatin, Tennessee, and Darren Austin Sipes and his wife, Holly Greenwell Sipes of Brandenburg, KY, along with three grandchildren, Michael James Sipes of Gallatin, Tennessee, Slade and Kathryn Sipes of Brandenburg, KY. He is also survived by his loving nephew, Christopher Stone and wife, Stephanie Stone and Carson Stone, all of Brandenburg, Kentucky, as well as his nieces, Amanda Stone Pierce and husband, Josh Pierce and Logan Steines and Austyn Pierce of Brandenburg, Kentucky, and his brother and sister-in-law, Alec and Judy Stone of Brandenburg, Kentucky. Additional surviving family members include special granddaughters, Kristen Dossett of Cadiz, Kentucky, and Kasey Beaton of Farmington, Missouri, along with longtime friends, Darice Spink and Bill and Darlene Hayden.
Eddie worked as a maintenance Supervisor at Olin Chemical Corporation for 15 years. He later became a Real Estate Agent and Broker and eventually opened Eddie Sipes Realty and Eddie Sipes Builders in Brandenburg, Kentucky. He was a builder of both custom and spec homes in Meade County, but especially in the Doe Valley Community in Brandenburg, Kentucky. Eddie was a member of the Brandenburg United Methodist Church, a member of the Mens’ Doe Valley Golf League, and a former longtime member of the Brandenburg Rotary Club. He served as a member of the Meade County Board of Education, serving as Chairman. He was also a member and Chairman of the Kentucky State Board of Education and a veteran of the United States Army.
Eddie and Deanie traveled extensively through Europe and spent many winters in their favorite place, the Islands of Hawaii. Eddie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He had many close and loving friends whose friendship he cherished. He will always be remembered as a kind, generous and loving man.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 (Eddie’s 83rd Birthday) at the Chapel of the Hager Funeral Home, with Rev. Ron Beaton officiating. Burial will follow in Buck Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, and from 9:00 AM until the time of service on Tuesday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Kosair Shriners Childrens’ Home which was a very special charity to him. Remembrances can be made to that organization in Eddie’s name.
