Elizabeth King Obituary

Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Stith King, of Midway, passed peacefully at home on January 14, 2022 at the age of 93, just shy of her 94th birthday.

She was born on February 7, 1928, near Irvington, KY, daughter of the late Morris Randall Stith and Anna Belle Foote Stith. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Terry King, and siblings Doris Mitcham, John Stith, and Ranny Stith.

Elizabeth Ann is survived by the love of her life and husband of over 75 years, Howard Patrick King.

She is also survived by her siblings Larry Stith (Carolyn), Peggy Hash (Gordon), Linda Clark (Jeff), and Sheila Boris (Steve). In addition, she is survived by eleven children: Jill Thompson (Jim), Patrick King, Jr (Leslie), Jan Helm (late Bradley), Jennifer Hobbs (Bernard), Kevin King (Debbie), Denis King (Myra), Jackie Hamilton, Jon King, Kyle King (Meg), Karen Morris (Kevin), Lisa Babb (Jodie), and daughter-in-law Nancy Bruner King.

Also, surviving are 43 grandchildren, 82 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Elizabeth Ann shared her name and legacy with a number of namesakes, counting 20 among her daughters and granddaughters.

Elizabeth was a member of St. John the Apostle church for over 50 years, prior to which she attended Holy Guardian Angel Church. She joined the church on her wedding day September 12, 1946, when she married the boy next door, Howard. Together they provided their children and grandchildren the example of faith and service to the Lord. Elizabeth served on the bereavement committee for St. John’s, preparing dishes for parishioners and was a member of the Midway Homemakers. She was also a gracious host to friends and family alike.

She began her married life teaching at Irvington Elementary School. Education and self confidence were stressed as the key to future success. Elizabeth also volunteered at the local library. She passed on her love of reading and books to her children and grandchildren. Elizabeth also volunteered for the American Red Cross, serving as a host and ambassador for local blood drives.

Elizabeth embodied the faithful servant and was happiest at home surrounded by family and her sweetheart. This elegant matriarch could rule with a raised eyebrow but never a raised voice. While heartbroken to lose this precious woman in our life, heaven has a new angel. Until we meet again, love always.
