Mr. Fred C. Wheatley, age 92, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at his residence. He was born September 5, 1928, the son of Coleman F. and Gola F. (Williams) Wheatley. Fred began his career working for Emmitt Applegate at Applegate Motors in downtown Brandenburg, making 75 cents an hour. He was the owner of Wheatley Chevrolet from 1967-1988. Fred was passionate and proud about his community. He was a true leader. Fred was a founding board member of WMMG Radio in Brandenburg; a former board member of the Meade County Industrial Authority; a member of the Brandenburg Moose Lodge; a Kentucky Colonel; and a member of the National and Kentucky Automobile Dealers’ Association. He loved people in general and loved playing poker with his many friends.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Fredric Caleb “Cale” Brown; his granddaughter, Sarah Smith Hottell; two brothers, Wilbur and Jewel Wheatley; and his former wife, Rena Lou Wheatley. He is survived by his loving wife, Liz Wheatley; four children, Amanda (Tony) Brown, Pat (Leona) Wheatley, Rebecca (Don) Wells, Donna (Doug) Reed; four step children, Tim (Kittie) Smith, Kim Myers, Kenton (Sandy) Smith, Jamie (Steve) Cundiff; seven grandchildren, Anthony, Megan and Ned Brown, Patrick C. Wheatley, Jr., Christopher Lawson, and Aaron and Julie Reed; 12 step grandchildren, Joseph, Robey and Cynthia Smith, Kurt and Laura Myers, Sidney, Taylor and Kendell Smith, Abbigail Lilly, Jonah, Max and Kimberly Cundiff; 15 great grandchildren; and 17 step great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, with Rev. Toan Do officiating. Burial will follow in St. George Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Hager Funeral Home from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, and at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of mass on Thursday. The family would prefer, that masks be worn and social distancing be followed during the visitation and funeral mass. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Cale Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; or to Hosparus of Central Kentucky.
