Gary Gene Ely

Mr. Gary Gene Ely, age 37, of Louisville, KY, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at his residence.  Gary always had a servant’s heart for people.  He particularly had great compassion and empathy for those suffering with addiction.  He realized that addiction doesn’t define the sufferer, and that every addict deserves help and compassion.  As such, he was a great source of help and encouragement to so many.

  Gary is survived by four children, A’Kyah Johnson, Brandenburg, KY, Brian Woolfolk, Gary Ely, Jr. Noah Ely, all of Battletown, KY; his father, Tommy Ely, Battletown, KY; his mother, Denise Hockman, Battletown, KY; his sister, Crystal Moody and her husband, Chris, Battletown, KY, his girlfriend, Jessica Johnston and her son, Ayden, Louisville, KY; his nieces and nephews, Brittany, David and Devin Moody, all of Battletown, KY; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

  Funeral services will be privately held for Gary’s immediate family only, due to capacity restrictions from COVID-19.  The service will be streamed online to the Hager Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 8, 2020.  Public visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 2:30 PM on Sunday.  Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the funeral home to aid the family with expenses.
