GySgt (Ret.) Allen Lee Akers, age 66, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024, at his residence. He was born October 21, 1957, the son of Lacie and Zellia Akers.
GySgt Akers retired from the United States Marine Corps in 1998 after serving his country for over 20 years. He loved all things Sci-Fi, collecting baseball cards, and going to flea markets. Mostly though, he loved being a grandfather and hanging out with his grandson, Jax. He loved to teach Jax things about collecting cards, as Jax loves Pokemon Cards, and how to properly take care of those cards, as he always had with his own baseball cards. He was always up for taking Jax to lunch, building Lego sets with him, and beating him in checkers. Jax was never allowed to win.
GySgt Akers was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Linda Lou Lucas, Lucille Noe and Minnie Akers. He is survived by his daughter, Jessica Akers; his beloved grandson, Jaxon Wilson; three brothers, Malcome Akers, Vernon (Tonya), and Christopher Akers; and six sisters, Paulette Hunt, Lena Mae Akers, Christine Akers, Lisa Akers, Evelyn (Larry) Smith, and Therese (Cecil) Cockerel.
A Celebration of GySgt Akers’ life will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, July 12, 2024, at the chapel of the Hager Funeral Home, with Rev. William “Happy” Chandler officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until the time of service on Friday. Burial, with military honors, will be held at 9:30 AM on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, KY.
