Mr. James Harold “Sonny” Hardesty, age 88, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022, at his residence. Sonny was born July 8, 1934, the son of James Hubert and Sarah Eula (Hall) Hardesty. Sonny was a parishioner of Holy Guardian Angel Catholic Church. He was a longtime truck driver for companies such as Ace Doran, BESL Trucking, Mason-Dixon and Mercer Transportation. After retiring as an over the road truck driver, he spent his time working as a grain hauler for Hager Trucking, finally retiring in 2020, at the age of 86.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 63 years, Betty S. Hardesty; three sisters, Laverne Thomas, Carol Ann “Crickett” Fackler and Martha Nell Barger. He is survived by two daughters, Jackie Hardesty Flaherty and her husband, Mike, and Carrie Hardesty Filburn and her husband, Eric; four grandchildren, Justin (Kristen) Flaherty, Jenna (Dale) Pack, Bailey (Caroline Smith) Flaherty and Grace Filburn; five great grandchildren, Hayden Pack, Brettley Pack, Sawyer Pack, Jaxon Baskerville and Aden Hall; three brothers, Wayne Hardesty, Jerry (Carolyn) Hardesty and Larry (Jane) Hardesty; and his sister, Sheila (Rodney) Pickering; and his beloved dog, “Little Man”.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 4, 2022, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, with Rev. Toan Do officiating. Burial will follow in St. George Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of mass on Friday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Lester’s Feet Foundation; Pets in Need Society of Meade County; or to St. John the Apostle Catholic Church for Masses to be said for Sonny and his beloved wife, Betty.
