James Donald "Donnie" McGar, Jr.

 James Donald “Donnie” McGar, Jr., age 64, of Ekron, KY, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at his residence.  Donnie was a graduate of the University of Louisville and a huge U of L sports fan.  He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed planting and raising his yearly garden.  Donnie retired from Civil Service as an Environmental Engineer and was also a member of the Meade County Planning and Zoning.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Rita McGar; and his brother, Jeff McGar.  He is survived by his loving wife, Dianna Chapman McGar; two step-sons, Shawn Hammontree and his wife, Bethany, and Jason Hammontree and his wife, Micah; three grandchildren, Bria, Naomi, and Silas; his sister, Jan McGar Raine; two nephews, Josh McGar and Jonathan Raine; two nieces, Anne Raine Hayden and Janice Faye Raine Johnson; and five great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at the chapel of the Hager Funeral Home, with Rev. Garry Hicks officiating.  Burial will follow in Ekron Baptist Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, and from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Wednesday.  Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association, or to the American Cancer Society.
