Mrs. Jimmie Lee Harrington Chapman, age 93, of Ekron, KY, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her family... She was a longtime member of Ekron Baptist Church, where she served as the music director, pianist and organist for over 50 years and led the bell choir. Jimmie Lee also served as music director for the Salem Association. Among her many occupations, she retired from civil service as a Technical Librarian; taught school in Meade County; and was a census taker. Jimmie Lee was a member of the Ambrose Meador chapter of the DAR since 1985, where she served as chaplain, regent and vice-regent. She had a band while in high school that was named the Glorified Jerks.
Jimmie Lee was preceded in death by her parents, John Hardin and Cora Lee (Shoptaw) Harrington; and her loving husband, Richard “Bus” Chapman, Sr. She is survived by five children, Richard “Dickie” (Pam) Chapman, Jr., Doris Lee Chapman (Dennis) Glynn, Lois Jean Chapman (Ernie) Lawson, Dianna Lynne Chapman (Donnie) McGar, and Marilyn A. (Kostiantyn Ushatskyi) Hill; 12 grandchildren, Chris, Amy, Rhonda, Tammy, Joey, John, Barry, Hollie, Bradley, Shawn, Jason and Ryan; 26 great grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marilyn LeCompte and Lillian Taggart; several nieces and nephews; and her very special caregivers.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Ekron Baptist Church, with Revs. Tom Curry and Jack Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Saturday at Hager Funeral Home, and from 1:00 PM until the time of service on Sunday at the church. The family request that attendees wear masks during the visitation and funeral service. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hosparus of Central Kentucky or to the Ekron Baptist Church Building Fund.
