Mrs. JoAnn Anita (Marchetti) Whalen, age 86, until recently of Payneville, KY, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021, at The Waters of Winchester in Tennessee. She was born and raised in Joliet, Illinois among an Italian-American community. She was a graduate of Providence High School in Joliet. After her marriage to her loving and devoted husband, William E. “Bill” Whalen, Jr., they moved to Louisville, KY. JoAnn was nursing instructor at Jefferson State Vocational School, before retiring with Bill in Payneville. They were formerly members of St. Mary Magdalen of Pazzi Catholic Church, and more recently members of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Brandenburg. JoAnn had resided at All About Homes Assisted Living Facility in Brandenburg, before recently relocating to Tennessee in March of this year.
JoAnn is survived by her six children, Susan Whalen, Julia Miller and her husband, Paul, Brian Whalen and his wife, Dee Dee, Mark Whalen and his wife, Barbara, Paul Whalen and his wife, Shawn, and Anthony Whalen; her sister, Mary Lou Marchetti, OSF; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 29, 2021 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, with Rev. Toan Do officiating. The funeral mass will also be streamed online to the Hager Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will follow in St. Mary Magdalen of Pazzi Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Hager Funeral Home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, and at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of mass on Friday. Vigil services will be held on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
