Mrs. Joan Miller (Skillman) Schmidt, age 78, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at her residence.  Joan had many interests, but especially loved to sew.  Her greatest joy was taking care of her family by cooking and providing for them.

      Mrs. Schmidt was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Susie (Miller) Skillman; her loving husband of 60 years, Robert E. Schmidt; and her brother, Larry Skillman.  She is survived by three children, Carolyn Fisher and her boyfriend, Brian Coomes, Charlotte Benham and her fiancé, Rodney Switzer, and Chris Schmidt and his wife, Jodi; six grandchildren, Erica (Nathan) Hager, Derek (Kim) Benham, Cammeron (Alexa) Fisher, Lauren (Josh) Johnson, Savannah (Jaad) Schmidt and Christian Schmidt; five great grandchildren, Jade Hager, Easton Benham, Marlee Hager, Josiah Hager and Adlee Jo Benham; a great granddaughter on the way that Joan lovingly chose the name, Layla Hager; her sister, Suzanne Osborne and her husband, Bobby.

       In honoring Joan’s wishes, the family has chosen cremation with no public service to be held.  Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Kosair Charities.
