John Edward Coates

Mr. John Edward Coates, age 83, of Stephensport, KY, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at his residence. John was born on December 12, 1939, the son of James Charles and Jennie Florence (Durbin) Coates. John proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was the former president of the Meade County Senior Citizens and the Dixie 4x4 Mud Run in Florida.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Dana Coates; and five siblings, James C. “Bubby” Coates, Paul Coates, Rose LaTondress, David Coates and Shirley Benham. He is survived by the love of his life, Ruth Ann Burdette; his son, Todd Coates; step-daughter, Tina Thaw and her husband, Lane; his sister, Marie Coates and her husband, Don; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services, with military honors, will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the chapel of Hager Funeral Home with Rev. Kayln Grady officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday and from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Tuesday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society.
