Mr. John William Dye, age 77, of Sellersburg, IN, passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021, in Louisville, KY. John was born on January 29, 1944, the son of Vivian Katzman and Elbert Dye. He joined the United States Air Force as an Air Policeman after graduating from Seneca High School. John served in Turkey during the Vietnam War and was then stationed at Lackland AFB in Texas, where he served as a member of the Funeral Honor Guard. Following his military career, John was employed at the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant for 40 years, where he served as a firefighter, guard and EMT. He was a devout Christian, and avid Kentucky Wildcat fan, and a member of the Sellersburg American Legion Post. John was a devoted and loving husband and the best papaw anyone could ask for.
John was preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Lois Lawson Dye; five stepchildren, Edward (Shirley) Lawson, Debbie Adcock, both of Brandenburg, KY, Kevin (Theresa) Benham, Fredericksburg, IN, Garlina (Kenny) Flood, Hawesville, KY, and Jocelynn Conklin, Charlestown, IN; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at the chapel of the Hager Funeral Home, with Gary Benham officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Wednesday.
