Mr. Joseph Leo Greenwell, age 79, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY.  Leo was born May 21, 1944, the son of Bernard Francis and Anna Loretta (Fackler) Greenwell.

Leo was a “horse nut” all his life.  He loved competing in and attending horse pulls and helped manage the Western Horse Show and Horse Pull at the Meade County Fair for a time beginning in 1958.  One of his favorite sayings was “Black, Grey, or Bay, We Came to Play.”  He was a proud veteran of the United States Army.  Leo was also a barber for 57 years, as well as an astute businessman in Meade County, owning and operating Leo’s Barber Shop in several different locations, the last of which is where Jason’s Barber Shop is located today.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Loretta; and two brothers, Kelly and Floyd Greenwell.  He is survived by three children, Gina (Tony Lee) Greenwell, Darren Greenwell, and J.W. (Emily Pollock) Greenwell; six grandchildren, Ryan Collingwood, Cody (Jennifer) Lee, Katey (Tony) Fleenor, Jacob (Kelli) Lee, Brendin and Brady Pollock: eight great grandchildren, Dalton and Jaxson Collingwood, Eli Lee, Landyn and Charli Fleenor and Easton and Jensyn Lee, and Raelynn Maggard; six brothers and sisters, Jerry (Brenda) Greenwell, Eddie (Sissy) Greenwell, Mary Jo Livers, Marie Hall, David Greenwell and Pat Greenwell; his sister-in-law, Rita Greenwell; his extended family members, Greg, Jonathon, Courtney and Brandon Scott, Chad Washburn, Chris and Jensen Rhoads, Shawna Solomon, and Amanda Moorhouse; numerous other friends, and his horse pulling community in Montgomery, IN.

A memorial visitation will be held from 2:30 PM until 6:30 PM on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the chapel of the Hager Funeral Home.  Graveside services, with military honors will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at St. Mary Magdalen of Pazzi Cemetery, with Rev.
