Martin Webb, Sr. Obituary

Martin Douglas Webb, 93, of Payneville, affectionately known as “Pop” to his family, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the Harrison Healthcare Center, in Corydon, Indiana.  Martin was born November 9, 1930, in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of Wade Hampton and Catherine H. (Beckley) Webb.

His journey on earth may have concluded, but the impact of his love will resonate with us forever.  He married Joann Singleton on October 17, 1953.  They shared sixty-five years of memories.  In 1962, Martin opened Webb’s Town & Country now known as Webb’s Butcher Block which is still operating as a family business sixty-two years later in the original building.

Martin served in the Army during the Korean War.  One of his most cherished memories was participating in an honor flight to Washington DC with fellow veterans.  His favorite pastime was fishing with family and friends, plus telling tales of the one that got away.

He is survived by five children, Debra Byrnes (Jon); Catherine Mattingly (Francis); Martin Webb Jr. (Joyce); Tonya Hardesty (Gary); Mitch Webb (Tammy); 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and brother, James Webb.

Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Joann; his parents; daughter, Mary Beth Webb; son, Todd Webb; granddaughter, Carissa Mattingly Foushee; great-grandchildren, Rance and Adie Foushee; and brother, Anthony Webb.

We celebrate a life well-lived, full of love and cherished memories.  Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM, on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the chapel of Hager Funeral Home with Rev. George Illikkal officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Parr-Frans Cemetery, in Battletown, Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Sunday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Parr-Frans Cemetery.
