Mary Elizabeth (Lawson) Dowell

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Dowell, age 89, of Ekron, KY, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at her residence.  Mary was a lifelong resident of Meade County.  She was a homemaker by profession.  She loved to garden and raise different varieties of vegetables and flowers.  Mary was a longtime member of Buck Grove Baptist Church, where she served as director of the nursery for many years.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Harold E. Dowell; her son, David E. Dowell; her parents, William “Bill” and Nannie (Wardrip) Lawson; four brothers, Edward, David Henry, Carl and Donnie Lawson; and her sister, Alberta Shelman.  She is survived by five children, Ronald Dowell, Falls of Rough, KY, Susan Menken and her husband, Daniel, Ekron, KY, Ruth Scott, Raywick, KY, Alan Dowell, Upton, KY, and Kenneth Dowell and his wife, Kim, Brandenburg, KY; her brother, Joe Lawson and his wife, Anna, Brandenburg, KY; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 22, 2021, at Buck Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. David Campbell officiating.  Burial will follow in Buck Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Monday.  Mary’s grandchildren will serve as her pallbearers.
