Mrs. Mary Lena Hardesty, age 85, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at Harrison Springs in Corydon, IN. She was born September 1, 1935, the daughter of Herbert Lee and Elizabeth Roberta (Clark) Mattingly. Mrs. Hardesty was a parishioner at St. Mary Magdalen of Pazzi Catholic Church; retired from Civil Service; and a longtime member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).
Mrs. Hardesty was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Wallace Greenwell and Benjamin Hardesty; her daughter, Leisa Greenwell; and two brothers, Herbert, Jr. and Lamar Mattingly. She is survived by her daughter, Dana Vanover and her husband, Eric; three grandchildren, Brooke Bennett and her fiancé, Tyler Lilly, Taylor Deaton and her husband, Garrett and Devon Vanover; and her great grandson, Waylon Lilly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at St. Mary Magdalen of Pazzi Catholic Church, with Rev. George Illakkal officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at Hager Funeral Home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, and from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM on Wednesday. Vigil services will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday from the funeral home, led by Deacon Greg Beavin. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery.
