Mrs. Mary Franklin Elder Vessels, age 87, of Union Star, KY, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at her home. Mary Franklin was born August 9, 1935, to James Franklin and Mayme Marie Hesler Elder. She was an amazing cook and welcomed anyone to her table.
Mary Franklin was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Leon Vessels; and three sisters, Gracie Peters, Susie (Bernard) Fackler and George Anne (Marvin) Vessels. She was a devoted mother to Leona (Pat) Wheatley, Frankie (Cheryl) Vessels, Peggy (Lee) Hardesty, and Michelle Vessels; loving grandmother to Patrick Wheatley, Shaun (Melissa) Hardesty and Apryl (Chris) Stansbury; loving great grandmother to Brenna Wheatley, Levi (Maggie) Wheatley, Ella Wheatley, Luke and Drew Hardesty, Hunter and Mason Stansbury. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Florence Vessels and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 9, 2023, at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, with Rev. George Illikkal officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of mass on Friday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Theresa Church, or to the Meade-Breck Center/Matt Pike Memorial Gym.
