Roy Calloway Obituary

Mr. Roy S. Calloway, age 79, of Big Spring, KY passed away Monday, September 2, 2019 at Jewish Hospital, Louisville, KY. Mr. Calloway was a retired teacher of Jefferson County Public Schools, a member of Big Spring-Corners United Methodist Church, a member of Vine Grove Lodge 603 F.&A.M., Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 122, Vine Grove, KY, a member of the Order of the Amaranth, a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, a member of the Mensa Society, a veteran of the Kentucky Air Guard, an Air Force Veteran and a Kentucky Colonel.

Mr. Calloway was preceded in death by his parents, Roy O. and Helen Inez Gossett Calloway; a sister, Judy and Johnny Douglas; a brother-in-law, John Babinsack; and three nephews. Eddie Douglas, Tony Horne and Eric Calloway. He is survived by his wife, Mary Calloway; four children, Mike (Dedria) Hacker, Jim (Amber) Hacker, Big Spring, KY, Laurinda (Rick) Copeck, Vine Grove, KY, and Gail (Clint) Mays, Shelbyville, KY; six grandchildren, Michael, Christina, Jeremy, Johnathon, Cheyenne and Blake; four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Levi, Nathan and Olivia; four sisters, Ann (Larry) Hobbs, Brandenburg, KY, Faye (Ned) Horne, Kokomo, IN, Lora (Rick) Rogers, Webster, KY, and Sandra (Mike) Jeffiers, Pinellas Park, FL; and two brothers, Gene Calloway, Kokomo, IN and Larry (Diane) Calloway, Leitchfield, KY.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday from the Big Spring-Corners United Methodist Church with Rev. J.W. Shelley and Rev. Key Min Keylee officiating. Burial will follow in Big Spring Methodist Cemetery with full military honors and Masonic Services. Visitation will be at Hager Funeral Home, Brandenburg, KY from Noon until 8 PM Friday and after 9 AM Saturday. Eastern Star and Amaranth services will be held Friday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be donations to Big Spring Methodist Cemetery, 1425 Hobbs Reesor Road, Vine Grove, KY 40175.
