Mr. Russell Gareth Williams, age 84, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Brandenburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Russell, “Rusty” to his longtime friends and “Butchie” to his family, was born in Milford, Connecticut, on October 8, 1939. He was a 1957 graduate of Amity Regional High School in Woodbridge, Connecticut, where he was very active in sports and was the school’s goalie for the hockey team. Russell entered the United States Navy on February 20, 1958 and served until May 18, 1962. After his service he went on to be a structural steel fabricator and foreman for several steel shops up to his retirement from Park City Steel in Orange, Connecticut. Russell moved to Brandenburg, Kentucky, in 1993 to build a new home and enjoy his retirement with his wife, Ruth Alcorn Williams, and his daughter and grandchildren. After retiring, he was able to enjoy time with family, spend as much time fishing as he wanted and later in life took up bowling, which he enjoyed greatly making many new friends along the way.
Russell is preceded in death by his parents, Carl R. Williams and Martha A. (Sattig) Williams Sigovitch; his beloved wife of 46 years, Ruth Alcorn Williams; his brother, Ronald C. Williams and his sister, Martha A. Lorton. He is survived by two children, Russell Gareth Williams Jr. and Lori W. Storms; sisters, Denise L. Gustafson of Torrington, CT, Carla I. Williams of Meriden, CT; brothers, Edward Williams of Irvine, CA and Charles A. Williams of Branford, CT; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 PM on July 29, 2023, at the chapel of Hager Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association.
