Ruth Ann (Basham) Whelan

     Mrs. Ruth Ann Whelan, age 76, of Guston, KY, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at her residence.  Ruthie was born January 18, 1947, the daughter of Wilbur Kenneth and Nellie Catherine (Berry) Basham.  She was a very talented lady who enjoyed quilting, sewing, working in her flower gardens, and just anything crafty in general.  She loved to make different designs using stained glass and was a very avid bargain hunter.

      Ruthie was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Frances Basham; and her brother, Wilbur Basham.  She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Sam Whelan; two children, Amy Nevitt and her husband, Hank, and Jason Whelan and his wife, Lorie; seven grandchildren, Kayla Mills, Morgan Rockenfelder, Alexa Weedman, Jake Barr, Kallie Whelan, Dalton Prather and Cash Hankins; 11 great grandchildren; and her sister, Jean Embry.

      Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 13, 2023, at the chapel of the Hager Funeral Home with Greg Bray officiating.  Burial will follow in Ekron Baptist Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, and from 8:00 AM until the time of service on Friday.  In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Meade County 4-H Council Beef Club, c/o Andy Mills or Lauren Stith, 1041 Old Ekron Road, Brandenburg, KY  40108.  Online condolences may be left at www.hagerfuneralhome.com.
