SFC (Ret.) Harold Lee Aleshire, age 92, of Elizabethtown, KY, formerly of Brandenburg, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at his residence. Harold was born March 11, 1929, in Ethal, West Virginia, the son of John N and Lula Aleshire. He enlisted in the United States Army in July 1950. On August 4, 1951, at the age of 21, he was sent to join the Korean War effort. He retired at Fort Knox in January of 1977, having acquired the rank of SFC. During his service, he was awarded several ribbons and medals that include, the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations (Korean) Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential unit Citation, Army Presidential unit citation, Korean Service Medal, Armed Forced Expeditionary Medal, Korean War Service Medal and an overseas ribbon. Harold was a man of many interests, and in his free time, he enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening, wood working and playing bingo.
Harold was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Jean (Adkins) Aleshire; his parents John Aleshire and Lula Aleshire Tomblin; his step father, Bob Tomblin; two brothers, Ray and John; and two sisters, Louise Large Aleshire and Janet Sue Byler Aleshire. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Jean (Dutschke) Aleshire; four sons, Allen (Gracie) Aleshire, Cloudcraft, NM, Mike (Sandy Aleshire, Elizabethtown, KY, Mark (Karen) Aleshire, Radccliff, KY, Scott (Kim) Aleshire, Brandenburg, KY; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Margaret Coyle, Brandenburg, KY, Pat Hatfield, Denville, WV; his brother, Don Aleshire, Brandenburg, KY; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 7,2021, at the chapel of the Hager Funeral Home, with Rev. Joe Brothers officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at 2:30 PM at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, KY. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Tuesday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central.
