Mrs. Shirley Jean (Lucas) Berry Whelan, age 78, of Ekron, KY, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Kensington Manor in Elizabethtown, KY. Shirley was born August 30, 1944, the daughter of Lester Lee and Nona Frances (Elliott) Lucas.

Mrs. Whelan was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William Thomas “Sonny” Berry; brother, Wilmer Lucas; two sisters, Thelma Humphrey and Ruby Wright; and two bonus sons, Jeff Whelan and Terry Whelan. She is survived by her husband, James L. “Red” Whelan, Brandenburg, KY; three children, Sherry (Frank) Claycomb, Brandenburg, KY, Angie Berry (Willie) Searcy, Vine Grove, KY, and William Todd Berry, Ekron, KY; three bonus daughters, Lynn (Chris) Medley, Gail Whelan and Marla (Tommy) Wimpee, all of Brandenburg, KY; 15 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Goins, Guston, KY and Jewell Gionet, Syracuse, N.Y.

A private family graveside service will be held at Ekron Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tom Bridge officiating.
