Mr. Wilbert Henry “Bearcat” Ditto, Sr., age 83, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021, at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown, KY. Wilbert was a member of Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he was also a faithful member of the “Brotherhood” musical group. He was also a member of the Hardin Masonic Lodge #46. Bearcat was an avid hunter and fisherman, and overall sports fan. He was known as U of L’s biggest fan to all of his family and friends. Bearcat was extremely involved with the youth of the community. He coached Brandenburg youth sports for almost 40 years, where he touched the lives of so many young boys and girls and truly helped them to become great young men and women. He was also a member of the “chain gang” for the Meade County Greenwave football team for many years.
Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents, John Andrew and Minnie Elsie (Clarkson) Ditto; and two brothers, George A. and Harry L. Ditto. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Shirley J. Ditto; five children, Deborah Ditto, Gwendolyn Jenkins, Diana Jones and her husband, Joseph, Wilbert Ditto, Jr. and Khalila Sharasika; nine grandchildren, Roberta “Lyvonne” Ditto, Katina Mills, Phillip Ditto, Mashaun Desrosiers and her husband, Jeffrey, Nandi “Kyanna” Serikali, Aaliyah Serikali, Jashura Ditto, Joseph Jones II and Atiba “Nia” Serikali; seven great grandchildren, Karessa Mills, Kayla Young, Lolo Ditto, Jeffrey Desrosiers, Shaka Bangani, Sah’ter Masego and Luekah Ditto; two sisters, Minnie Helen Willis and Virginia E. Ditto; and three brothers, Charles A. Ditto, Roy B. Ditto and his wife, Vicky, and Fred Kirby Ditto and his wife, Mae Wanda. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family, and his many, many friends, also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at the Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Jade McQueary officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday.
