Mr. William Elmer “Bill” Whalen, Jr., 87, of Payneville, KY passed away Saturday, July 18, 2020 at his residence. He was a member of the Flaget High School Alumni Association, a former principal of the Meade County Vocational School, and a member of the Meade County Archaeology and History Club. Mr. Whalen was also a former member of St. Mary Magdalen of Pazzi Catholic Church and a current member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church. He was a Navy veteran and a member of Jolly Roger Squadron VF 61. Lastly, he was a member of the Brandenburg Dairy Queen Breakfast Club.
Mr. Whalen is survived by his wife, JoAnn Whalen; six children, Susan Whalen, Julia Miller and her husband, Paul, Brian Whalen and his wife, Dee Dee, Mark Whalen and his wife, Barbara, Paul Whalen and his wife, Shawn, and Anthony Whalen; one brother, James Whalen and his wife Lou; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial, for Mr. Whalen’s immediate family only due to Covid-19 restrictions, will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday from St. John the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery. The funeral mass will be streamed live to the Hager Funeral Home Facebook page. Public visitation will be held at Hager Funeral Home from 4 until 8 PM Wednesday. Vigil services will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday at the chapel of the funeral home, with Deacon Mike Jones officiating.
