Welcome to the memorial page for

Deidra Ilene Craig

July 2, 1948 ~ February 14, 2017 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Deidra Ilene Craig, age 68, of Louisville, KY, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at Wesley Manor Health Care Center.  Deidra was born on Friday, July 2, 1948, the 8th child of Bertrand and Reba Avitt Nevitt. Her childhood was spent on the family farm in Rhodelia where her brothers and sisters ran free grabbing apples from the tree and then climbing the same trees to hide and enjoy nature’s bounty.

Her family meant the world to her and she celebrated every new addition. She loved every type of music, animals, fresh air, the sun on her face, fishing, and any family event.  Always a practical joker, you would never know when she would strike again and you felt honored to be chosen either as victim or co-conspirator. She would always take time to listen, hold you tightly and let you know that things would get better. This was perhaps her greatest gift…to love unconditionally and freely, and for this, we can learn by her example.

Deidra is survived by her daughter, Staci Farris, Louisville, KY; her son, Brian Farris, and his wife, Kim, Richmond, KY; two grandchildren, Caden Farris and McKenna Farris; four sisters, Andrea Rose Stivers, and her husband, J.E., Marlene Madrid, and her husband, Felipe, both of Elizabethtown, KY, Kay Carter, Hodgenville, KY, Mavis Robles, and her husband, Raul, Louisville, KY; three brothers, Cary Nevitt, Louisville, KY, Rex Nevitt, and his wife, Sandy, Elizabethtown, KY, Clayton Nevitt, and his wife, Louise, Rhodelia, KY; a brother-in-law, Reid Nevitt; and a sister-in-law, Theresa Nevitt.  Deidra also leaves behind multiple nieces and nephews who she dearly loved and cherished, as well as a little white poodle named Roscoe who served dutifully as her partner in crime for the last years of her life.

A Celebration of Deidra’s life will be held at the chapel of the Hager Funeral Home at 10:00 AM on Monday.  Burial will follow at St. Theresa Cemetery in Rhodelia, KY.  Visitation will be held at Hager Funeral Home in Brandenburg from 12:00 Noon until 8:00 PM on Sunday, and after 9:00 AM on Monday.  Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association in remembrance of Deidra Craig.
